Private Residence at Mandarin Oriental (Unbuilt)

Set along the Chao Phraya River, this unbuilt private residence is envisioned as a tranquil retreat for an owner based between Macau and Portugal, who enjoys spending time in Thailand. The design explores a sense of escape, combining contemporary sophistication with the warmth and relaxed character of a Thai holiday home.

Rather than adopting literal Thai motifs, the concept draws from Thailand through natural materials, woven textures, warm timber, handcrafted details, and an earthy, refined palette. Contemporary forms and understated detailing introduce a sense of quiet luxury, while tactile materials create a welcoming and intimate atmosphere.

The living spaces are envisioned around the river, allowing natural light and views of the Chao Phraya to become an integral part of the experience. Soft, layered lighting and carefully composed furnishings create a calm setting for relaxation, gathering, and moments of retreat.

The proposed residence brings together the cosmopolitan character of Macau and Portugal with the warmth and spirit of Thailand—imagined as a personal riverside sanctuary for slowing down, unwinding, and enjoying the experience of being in Thailand.
